How Beronia was Founded
In Northern Spain there is a long standing tradition of gastronomic societies, known locally as txokos, where men meet friends to cook and share their passion for fine food and drink.
In the 1970s one such group of friends formed a txoko in the small town of Ollauri in Rioja Alta.
Unsatisfied with the wine on offer at the time, they decided to start their own winery to make wines worthy of partnering their culinary achievements.
The result was multi award-winning Rioja winery, Bodegas Beronia.
The Beronia Txoko Club
Following in the footsteps of our passionate founders, we’re bringing together good friends with the perfect marriage of fine wine and food with the Beronia Txoko Club.
In celebration of our history we are sharing authentic pintxo recipes, delicious food and wine pairings and are hosting Beronia Txoko Club events up and down the country. Our events showcase our stunning Rioja wines whilst giving people the opportunity to create their very own Basque culinary delights.
And although Txokos may have been male only affairs in Spain in the 1970s, we welcome everyone with open arms. Although, ladies sometimes disguise themselves behind a stylish moustache to complement the dashing black Basque berets or txapelas for the fully authentic txoko experience!
